London, Sugar & Slavery

London, Sugar & Slavery

Visit the only permanent exhibition to examine London’s involvement in transatlantic slavery.

Slavers of Harley Street

Slavers of Harley St map

New to the London, Sugar & Slavery community gallery Slavers of Harley Street lifts the lid on London’s middle class investments in slavery, dispelling the myth that the archetypal slave-owner was sitting on a porch in the Caribbean surveying his plantations. The display offers a snapshot of some of the individuals and businesses based in Marylebone who received government compensation when slavery was abolished in the 1830s.
