Teachers

The resources on this website have been developed to enable KS2 teachers and pupils to access a range of material from the Sainsbury Archive. They suggest ways in which the archive material can be used to support the National Curriculum requirements and QCA Schemes of Work for Literacy, Mathematics, Art and Design, Citizenship, Design and Technology, Geography, History, ICT, RE and Science.

Resources include:

  • Interactive whiteboard presentation, designed as an introduction to the archive
  • Timeline linking the development of Sainsbury’s with national and world events.
  • ‘Spotlight on food, shops and shopping’: six themed units featuring evidence from the archive.
  • Interactive cross-curricular quizzes linked to each of the Spotlight themes.
  • Suggestions for classroom activities and a scrapbook of supporting images

Other activities for informal and family learning include old-fashioned packaging to colour and make, the illustrated story of Sainsbury’s delivery boy Harry Webb and the chance to ‘Explore a Store’.
