A memorable day
H.K. Stevens recalls his second week as an egg boy at Sainsbury's during the 1930s:
'As third egg boy I was painstakingly candling a box of English New Laid, when out of the corner of my eye I saw the manager and a smartly dressed figure in a bowler hat gazing at me. I was so surprised that I went to turn around, but unfortunately slipped as I did so, and promptly sat in the box of eggs!’
