Uniforms: 1991-2007

1991 - 1999

A blue uniform was introduced that was felt to be ‘crisper and smarter’. Trials involved staff feedback that helped to determine the ultimate look and feel of the uniform.

Paul Costelloe design, 1999-2007

1999 - 2007

A vibrant blue and orange patterned uniform designed by Paul Costelloe aimed to combine comfort and style. The range included casual sportswear items such as baseball caps (replacing white trilbies) and orange fleeces. Personnel clerk Sheila Jones commented:

'Everybody wants the fleeces – some people have said they’d actually like to walk to work in them rather than wearing their own coats!'

2007

Every Sainsbury’s colleague was encouraged to contribute to the latest uniform redesign by filling in a questionnaire. The new uniforms are ethically produced and reflect Sainsbury’s brand colours and developments in fabric technology.
