Trading hours

Over the last 140 years the way we shop for food has changed dramatically, reflecting a variety of social changes. Since its establishment in 1869, Sainsbury's has constantly adapted to meet the changing needs of its customers.

When Sainsbury's started out there were no legal restrictions on shopping hours. Shops stayed open late into the evening on Saturdays. Shop hours were limited from 1950, but Sunday shopping has now become the norm.
