The search room

The search room is available for anyone wishing to research material held in the archive collections (for information on the material available please see the pages for the archive collections).

Making an appointment

  • Telephone our box office on 0870 444 3857
  • Book in person at the reception desk during opening hours
  • Email us at info@museumindocklands.org.uk to request an appointment.

Conditions of access

The first time you visit the search room you will need to show two forms of identification:

  • Passport or driving licence
  • Current household bill in your name

You will also be required to sign a registration form agreeing to abide by the search room rules and our conditions of access.

Search room opening times

The search room is usually open to booked researchers at the following times:

  • Tuesdays:  10.30am - 1pm and 2pm - 4.30pm
  • Thursdays: 10.30am - 1pm and 2pm - 4.30pm
  • Second Saturday of every month 10.30am - 1pm and 2pm - 4.30pm (excepting public holidays and bank holiday weekends)

Search room facilities

  • Lockers
  • Reprographics services
  • Selected online resources including journals and relevant websites
  • Comfortable chairs and reading desks
  • Free leaflets and information sheets
  • PowerPoints for personal computers
  • Reference library including journals

Taking a break

The Museum has its own cafe and for larger meals there is the museum bar and restaurant 1802.
