Family favourite object ten

Image is a watercolour illustration of a model of a pet tortoise called Tommy

After the Second World War much of Docklands was rebuilt. The Lansbury Estate was a huge new housing estate. The model tortoise is a pet of Alice Snoddy and her family. You can see the tortoise on the replica balcony of their flat in the estate.

The Lansbury Estate was meant to provide a community feel to people who lived there, so that they had everything they needed close by. What kind of house or flat do you live in? Do you like your neighbourhood?

Find out more by visiting our New Port New City gallery and completing this Tommy the tortoise challenge (Word 61kb).
