Negus 6th Form interprets Unquiet Thames

Phillip Kwapong's: Man and train

Negus Sixth Form centre is based at Plumstead Manor School. The art department offers courses in both ‘A’ level and BTEC Vocational courses.

This particular group of students were set a project for their photography unit on the BTEC National Certificate entitled ‘A Sense of Place’. The exhibition ‘Unquiet Thames’, by Crispin Hughes, coincided with the timing of their assignment and inspired them to think about how the subject and scale of an image can be interpreted to warp ‘reality’.

Following a tour of the exhibition that examined its conception and planning, the students used both digital and SLR cameras to produce a range of photographs.

The students were able to visit the City Learning Centre at Abbey Wood to use software that enabled them to manipulate their digital images in a similar style to that employed by Crispin Hughes.

Crispin Hughes was kind enough to comment on some of the images.
