Knees up @ Late
Thursday 5 June 2008, 6-9pm
Join us for a double act with a difference! Underbling & Vow will be leading the way in a merry sing-a-long with Music Hall songs in a good old-fashioned East End cockney knees up. Everyone will be Up the Elephant, Down the Strand and rolling the barrel all the way so get ready to join in and do The Lambeth Walk. Oi!
Interested in Victorian East End life? Why not make a late visit to our new Jack the Ripper and the East End exhibition. Book your tickets now for its very first late night opening
There will also be the chance to join the second event in the SABLE LitMag series of Undressing Empire which looks at three Black writers who have made a notable impact on Black Literature in Britain today, Rudy Kizermann, Una Marson and Joan Riley. Their work is introduced and discussed by three writers today who are themselves making a significant impact on the literature scene in Britain. Courttia Newland, Delia Jarett Macauley and Susan Yearwood will be discussing the legacies of the forgotten authors.
As always, the rest of the Museum is staying up late, giving you time to take in the 2000 years of docklands history and tales of the river, port and people – including the new London, Sugar & Slavery gallery. And if you want your Docklands evening to continue, why not go next door to 1802, the Museum’s bar, for some Soul Food Tunes and speciality cocktails until 11pm.
