London, Sugar & Slavery

Visit the only permanent exhibition to examine London’s involvement in transatlantic slavery in our thought-provoking new gallery, London, Sugar & Slavery,

In the setting of this historic sugar warehouse, challenge long-held beliefs that abolition was initiated by politicians and be touched by the real objects, personal stories and vibrant art and music that have left their legacy on the capital today.

Loss & Liberty is a powerful new collection of ceramic artworks and poems produced by offenders at Wandsworth Prison which goes on display in the Re-interpretations display area from 5 Aug – 30 Nov 2009.  Inspired by the themes in the London Sugar & Slavery gallery, the display makes personal connections between the artists’ lives and the history of transatlantic enslavement.  It builds on the long term relationship between the Museum and Wandsworth prison.
